About Us

Agriculture has been in our families for several generations, although we also looked briefly at other careers. With a degree in business and mathematics, Bob taught in high school, and Jean was a registered nurse. But after a couple of years of that, we felt a call back to the land. So we bought this farm in 1970, and we've been here ever since. At first we grew mostly vegetables and grains and raised a few hogs. Gradually we focused more on the hogs and growing crops to feed them. We've thought a lot about how our methods affect the land, and we strive to farm in ways that are friendly to the environment while producing safe, nutritious food. Over time we stopped using chemicals and antibiotics, and we've always avoided anything that's genetically modified. In 1995 we started a small herd of beef in order to improve our crop rotation. As our farm diversified, it became more self-sufficient and sustainable. Now we're raising more beef than hogs, and in 2010 we started raising chickens.

While we were trying to farm sustainably, the organic movement matured and markets started to develop for organic products. Almost all of our methods were already organic anyway, so we applied for organic certification. Our land was certified in 1999, our hogs in 2006 and our beef in 2008.

Today we produce and sell certified organic beef, pork, and eggs. We work with some excellent meat processors in the Green Bay - Fox Cities area who make a wide variety of beef and pork products. One of these processors, Otto Meats, is also certified organic.

Our youngest son Paul is part of our operation and will help us continue farming into the future. He also works with Midwestern Bio-Ag as a local consultant to advise farmers on how to produce healthy soils, crops, livestock and food. Our eldest son Jon brought us online in 2007 when he created our first website. He continues to provide virtual support from Germany, where he now teaches and works. Our current website was redesigned and is hosted by Joe Hochrein.
